Manhattan, NY – Yesterday, New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Council Member I. Daneek Miller hosted an Eid Ul-Fitr Celebration at the Council Chamber at City Hall. At the celebration Council Member Miller presented Khan Foundation with a proclamation recognizing its commitment to advancing educational opportunities for low-income, undocumented, and new immigrant high school youth through its college and career readiness programs.

Khan Foundation Founder & Executive Director, Dr. Ivan Khan accepted the proclamation with KF teammates: Dr. Tasneem Hoque, KF Board Officer, Melissa Johnson, Program Director, Tanjirul Islam, Program Manager, and Tahseen Chowdhury, KF Tech Coordinator. Additionally, Khan’s Tutorial Vice President, Mohammad Hossain & Khan’s Tutorial Director of Outreach Reevu Islam, attended the celebration.

“After helping nearly 70 low income students gain acceptance to top colleges with over thousands in financial aid, we look forward to hosting our annual College Access Program in Jamaica, Queens this Summer & Fall. While the work that we do as a new non-profit has been incredibly challenging, it has also become the most fulfilling project that I’ve ever had the privilege to be a part of. It is our organization’s belief that with your time, support & attention, today will mark the moment when Khan Foundation can take our work to the next level and continue building the American Dream for so many low income students & immigrant families after us,” said Khan Foundation Founder & Executive Director, Dr. Ivan Khan.

"On behalf of the Khan Foundation Team of Staff, Volunteers and Mentors, we are grateful for the wonderful opportunity to be recognized by City Council for our work. We see this honor as a chance to increase attention to the challenges many NYC low-income and undocumented high school students face as they seek to access higher education and hope this inspires others to support us as we continue to work to provide crucial free college & career readiness guidance and assistance to KF students who come to us in great need of support. We strive to ensure our work today makes a difference in the future of a student tomorrow," said Melissa Johnson, Khan Foundation Program Director.

Khan Foundation NYC is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization that strives to enrich the lives of low-income or undocumented high school students and rising professionals through college and career readiness as well as youth leadership development.
