New York, NY – Yesterday Mrs. Nayeema Khan, Chairperson of Khan’s Tutorial was honored by the Society of Foreign Consuls (SOFC) in New York at the Bohemian National Hall. The SOFC is a New York State not-for-profit organization representing the world’s largest consular corps, including Consulates, Consulates General and Honorary Consulates based in New York City.

As a part of SOFC’s International Women’s Day celebration, Mrs. Khan received the honor for Bangladesh from the President of the SOFC as well as Honorable Consul General of Bangladesh Shameem Ahsan. Mrs. Khan has been an active leader in education for more than 25 years. She was a Certified Elementary School Teacher in 1988 and later earned her Master’s of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from the New School University in 1992. She later started Khan’s Tutorial with her husband Dr. Mansur Khan in an effort to provide high-quality tutoring services at affordable costs for low-income new immigrant families.  As an advocate for women’s education Mrs. Khan has spoken at the United Nations for several summits including the Royal Academy of Science International Trust’s International Women & Girls Day in Science. Additionally, she was also a board member for Khan Foundation, a non-profit organization which increases opportunities for undocumented students, low-income communities, and young women.  Today, Mrs. Khan continues to hold a leadership role at Khan’s Tutorial which helps over 3,000 families weekly.

"We are so proud to see my mother, KT Chairperson be chosen for this prestigious honor. I personally learned more from my parents, Dr. Mansur Khan and Mrs. Nayeema Khan than anyone else on this earth. Given the many number of women leaders in my mother's family, starting with my Nani, and my two Khaalas, working for your community, especially it's young women is something that we've always believed in. We are very thankful to the Society of Foreign Nationals and the Bangladesh Consulate of NY for this tremendous recognition for my mother Nayeema Khan."

Another special guest for Bangladesh was designer Rozina Ahmed Runi. Ms. Runi was recognized from the stage for her contributions to the Bangladeshi community through her work in the fashion industry and her premier designs.

With 10 locations in the outer boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and in the Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Astoria, Ozone Park, and Floral Park neighborhoods of Queens, Khan’s Tutorial primarily serves in assisting families in low-income, new immigrant neighborhoods.
