October 24, 2017 - New York, New York – This past weekend Khan’s Tutorial Common Core students and their parents celebrated Perfect Score Weekend. Families visited Khan’s Tutorials 10 locations to celebrate their students who recently received the results for their Spring 2017 Common Core Statewide/Citywide Exams. This year, Khan’s Tutorial broke last year’s record of 537 with over 627 students scoring a single 4/4 or double 4/4. A score of 4/4 means that these students met and excelled beyond the standards set for elementary and junior high school students. Khan’s Tutorial 2017 SHSAT Acceptance Total Reaches 397 through the Discovery Program

Khan’s Tutorial would like to congratulate three KT SHSAT students who recently gained acceptance to a Specialized High School through the Discovery Program.

The recently expanded Discovery Program allows students who miss the cut off score for a Specialized High School to gain acceptance through a summer program. Students must have missed the score within a certain range and meet specific eligibility requirements, such as low-income status.Essentially, it is a second opportunity for students who did not gain acceptance the first time.

Dr. Ivan Khan supports City Council Candidates in favor of preserving the SHSAT – candidate positions will affect South Asian students’ access to Specialized High Schools

New York, New York -- The Chinese American Citizens Alliance of Greater New York (CACAGNY) recently surveyed Chinese American Candidates running for office in the New York City September 12th Primary, asking whether they presently support keeping the single merit based exam to the Specialized Highs Schools of New York City. Currently, the SHSAT is the only way to gain admission into the Specialized High Schools such as Stuyvesant, Bronx Science and Brooklyn Tech. These are the country’s best public high schools and predominantly Asian, however, they have come under attack for not being more diverse. Several elected officials claim the exam should be eliminated because it is unfair and preventing diversity at these schools.

Khan’s Tutorial SHSAT Student Gains Acceptance to Esteemed Program at Prep for Prep

QueensNY – July 5, 2017 – Khan’s Tutorial Jackson Heights student Ahanaf Tajwar, was recently accepted to the prestigious Prep 9 Program for 7th graders at Prep for Prep. Prep for Prep is a free program which helps academically gifted African American, Latino, and Asian American students excel at top schools across the US. Accepted students benefit from a rigorous 14-month course, college guidance, financial aid sessions, and recreational trips. After completing the Prep 9 program students earn a seat at leading boarding schools across the Northeast.  Admissions to Prep 9  is very competitive as students (nominated by their school), are expected to have stellar attendance and punctuality records, score 325+ on ELA reading or 324+ on Math Common Core exams, and have report card grade averages that are 90% or higher.

Khan’s Tutorial Addresses Changes to the SHSAT Through Staff Training and Meetings with Parents and Students

New York, NY – Last month the Department of Education announced several new changes made to the SHSAT - the entrance exam for Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech and the new Specialized High Schools. In response to these changes, Khan’s Tutorial has held several training sessions with SHSAT Instructors, Managers, and Directors in order to keep families and students informed.  Curriculum managers have been working around the clock to update diagnostic test material as well as class work and homework with the new sections. Brooklyn, NY – This past weekend, NYS Senator Jesse Hamilton visited Khan’s Tutorial Brooklyn to meet with KT President & CEO Dr. Ivan Khan and speak to recipients of the Dr. Mansur Khan SHSAT Opportunity Scholarship. A native New Yorker, Senator Jesse Hamilton was born and raised in South Bronx. The father of two children graduated from Ithaca College, received his M.B.A. from Long Island University in 1990 and his J.D. from Seton Hall University in 1994. Currently he serves on the influential Independent Democratic Committee as well as the Education Committee.
