KT Celebrates Students’ Excellent Common Core Exam Scores with Perfect Score Weekend

Queens, NY -- November 14th, 2018, Over the past two weeks, Common Core families across NYC visited Khan’s Tutorial’s 11 locations to celebrate their students who recently received a 4/4 for their Spring 2018 Common Core Statewide/Citywide Exams. A score of 4/4 means that these students met and excelled beyond the standards set for elementary and junior high school students. Next month, all high scoring Common Core families will be celebrating at Khan’s Tutorial’s Annual Achievement Awards Ceremony at the Colden Auditorium at Queens College.

KT Hosts First Ever Charity Staff Basketball Tournament

Queens, NY -- November 4th, 2018, This past weekend, Khan’s Tutorial held its first ever Charity Basketball Tournament. Khan’s Tutorial branches from all locations came together to John Bowne High School to participate in a friendly competition for a great cause. Each team picked a charity to represent in the tournament and the winning team had all the proceeds of the night go to the charity of their choice. Khan’s Tutorial Brooklyn, playing for Islamic Relief USA, earned the winning title at the end of the night after tirelessly playing four matches. Islamic Relief USA is a non-profit charity operating in 40 countries, which helps millions annually by responding to emergencies, providing water to countries that lack resources to get it, and offering orphan scholarships.

Khan’s Tutorial Hosts Expansion Opening for Ozone Park Location

Queens, New York November 3, 2018 - This past weekend, students and families gathered at Khan’s Tutorial’s Ozone Park location for the opening of the expansion space on the second floor. The space will be used for group classes for the Hunter Exam, SAT, and SHSAT. KT Chairperson Mrs. Nayeema Khan and KT CEO & President Dr. Ivan Khan met with students and their families for a prayer for the expansion space. Additionally, invitations for the upcoming Annual Award Ceremony were distributed to high scoring Common Core students.

Chairperson, Mrs. Nayeema Khan and CEO & President, Dr. Ivan Khan led the commemoration which included a small dua and celebrated the start of Khan's Tutorial starting its 25th year. Khan's Tutorial Senior Teammates were also present for the gathering -  Vice President Mohammad Hossain, Director of Outreach Reevu Islam, Director of Finance Niloy Iqbal, and Director of Marketing Paulina Baltazar.

NYS Spring 2018 Common Core Scores are Released

New York, NY - On Wednesday, September 26th, the Department of Education (DOE) announced  that parents can now access their child’s 2018 Common Core Exam scores. According to the New York State Education Department, 45.2% of all test takers in grades 3-8 scored at the proficient level (Levels 3 and 4) in ELA. In math, 44.5% of all test takers in grades 3-8 scored at the proficient level. Due to the State’s new two-session test design and performance standards, the 2018 Grades 3-8 ELA and math results cannot be compared to prior-year results. In previous years, students took their state exams in three sessions. The new baseline established this year will enable comparisons with student scores in 2019 and 2020.

The High School Achievement Program (HSAP) is led by Ms. Tasneem Imam Khan, MPH a graduate of Barnard College with a Master’s Degree from Columbia University. During the ceremony Khan’s Tutorial celebrated its High School students who achieved high scores on their Regents and SATs as well as those who gained admission to Ivy League schools.

As the Mayor plans to change the current admissions criteria to the Specialized High Schools, many are calling for the Department of Education to increase seats at the schools in order to increase opportunities for minority students. KT CEO & President, Dr. Ivan Khan Rallies to Keep the SHSAT with Asian American Community Organizations

Manhattan, NY – Last week, several community based organizations gathered for two rallies to show support for the SHSAT. Mayor Bill de Blasio’s recently announced plan proposes to change the current admissions criterion to NYC’s Specialized High Schools. This plan would replace the SHSAT with a new method that would admit students based on their class rank at their middle school as well as their statewide standardized tests scores.

The College Access Program works closely with 12th grade low-income Queens residents and their families to help students find, apply, and get into competitive colleges while helping them secure scholarships.
