October 11, 2016 – Khan’s Tutorial CEO & President Dr. Ivan Khan, Director of Outreach Reevu Islam, and Director of Marketing & Communications Paulina Baltazar supported community leaders gathered at City Hall yesterday to testify for NYC City Council’s Resolution 1230. The resolution is an active effort to support Muslim communities and urge NYC residents to stand together in response to the recent increase in islamophobic hate crimes. Dr. Ivan Khan testified on a panel with several other organizations about his experience as one of the largest employers of Muslim college students as well as serving nearly 3,000 students and their families weekly, most of whom identify as Muslim.
“I speak before you today to affirm the religious pluralism of the United States & support all New Yorkers to stand united with Muslim families at this tense time in our country’s & beloved city’s history. NYC has long been America’s gem in our inclusiveness and welcoming of new immigrant groups. We have done it in the past, and we will do it again.” said Dr. Ivan Khan, CEO and President of Khan’s Tutorial.
Over 500 signatures have been collected from elected officials for an open letter condemning bigotry, Islamophobia, and pledging to support Muslim immigrant communities who have come under stack.
“This election cycle we’ve seen unprecedented levels of bigotry in our national conversation and increasing acceptance of anti-Muslim and anti-Immigrant rhetoric. It is our shared responsibility to speak out against such hate,” said Council Member Brad Lander.

September 6, 2016 -This week Khan’s Tutorial senior leaders and students rallied at the steps of City Hall for a bill requiring more inclusive food options for students in the NYC public school system. The press conference was lead by SAFEST (South Asian Fund for Education, Scholarship, & Training) founder, Mazeda Uddin. Supporters of the bill argue that public school students who are observant Muslims or Jews are often times faced with decision of violating their religious dietary restrictions or going hungry for the entire school day. Additionally, low income students who rely on free lunches are forced to leave school to purchase halal or kosher food.
