New York, NY - March 5, 2016 – Earlier this month marked the release of the results of the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT), the sole determinant of admission into New York City’s prestigious Specialized High Schools including Stuyvesant High School, Bronx High School of Science, Brooklyn Technical High School, and the new Specialized High Schools. The top three Specialized High Schools offer acceptances to a total of about 3,000 students per year out of 30,000 students who take the challenging exam. The SHSAT program at Khan’s Tutorial (KT) is conducted year round with students starting classes 8-12 months before their exam. Over the last 21 years, KT has helped over 2,214 students gain admission to the Specialized High Schools.

A total of 335 students have been accepted so far, shattering last year’s total record of 254 accepted students.
The breakdown of KT’s acceptances in terms of schools (thus far) are:

Stuyvesant HS – 65
Bronx HS of Science - 99
Brooklyn Technical HS -  125
Brooklyn Latin School – 28
HS for Math, Science & Engineering at City College – 6
HS of American Studies at Lehman College– 4
Queens HS for the Sciences at York College– 5
Fiorello H. LaGuardia HS- 3

“Over 10% of the students from Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech are Khan’s Tutorial students, mostly South-Asian Americans, the fastest growing community in NYC. Due to the success of Khan’s Tutorial, Bengali is the second most non-English language spoken at home for students attending the Specialized High Schools,” said Dr. Ivan Khan, CEO & President of Khan’s Tutorial.

This past Acceptance Weekend, all students of last year’s SHSAT program were invited to return to KT to with their acceptance letters to celebrate their success and share their stories with future test takers.

"The academic success of our students over the past 21 years with 10 locations and over 2,600 unique students served every week leaves us as the largest leading tutorial in NYC and the #1 tutorial for the SHSAT with the highest success rate,” said KT chairperson Mrs. Nayeema Khan.

With 10 locations in the outer boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and in the Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Astoria, Ozone Park, and Floral Park neighborhoods of Queens, Khan’s Tutorial primarily serves in assisting families in low-income Bangladeshi-American neighborhoods. Over 2,214 students have gained admission to New York City’s Specialized High Schools through Khan’s Tutorial since its inception in 1994.
